Luciana was born at home in Rome with her grandparents - Luciana's father was Manlio Paoluzzi, an Italian Army officer, and her maternal grandmother was Maria Rota Paoluzzi who was at one time Benito Mussolini's lover's wives. The siblings of Luciana are not known. Luciana was a graduate of a local high-school in 1955 and studied naval engineering in Milan at the Scientific Academy of Milan. Luciana was the only female of her class was the first to be a graduate.
